Kelsey Brannan

Workplace: WSUM Student Radio Station at UW-Madison
Role: Director and General Manager

What are your role and job responsibilities at UW–Madison?

As Director of Student Radio, I oversee WSUM, UW’s student-run radio station. Students make most of the major decisions at the station, so it is my job to make sure they have the resources, training, and information needed to do their jobs well. In addition to serving as a mentor for students, I also handle the administrative and compliance aspects of managing a radio station.

What is the coolest, most interesting, or rewarding project you have worked on?

All of it. I love my job and I love WSUM. I think the most rewarding thing about it is the opportunity to return to my roots. I’m an alum of UW and WSUM paved the way for my career in public media. I love working with students to help them find their passion and their voice.

What is your favorite place on campus or favorite way to take a break from screens?

The Lakeshore Path, preferably after getting a scoop of Babcock ice cream from Memorial Union.

Please share any hobbies, sports, arts and crafts, or leisure activities you are passionate about.

Outside of work, I like to stay active by hiking and rock climbing. I am part of a book club and a cookbook club. Winter months usually are filled with quilting and sewing projects.

What is the latest series you streamed or movie you saw?

I’m currently watching The Last Of Us, and anyone on campus is welcome to set up a coffee meeting with me to discuss what is happening this season. I’m not sure I like the turn the series is taking, but I can’t stop thinking about it either.
