Memorial Resolutions

A memorial resolution honors the career of a deceased academic staff colleague with a written and oral tribute presented before the Academic Staff Assembly. The memorial resolution is kept as a historical record of the academic staff member’s contributions to the university.

If you would like to write a memorial resolution for an academic staff colleague, please contact the Office of the Secretary of the Academic Staff. We will work with you to identify an Assembly meeting date at which the resolution will be presented.

Once a meeting date has been identified, the following information is needed at least two weeks in advance of the meeting:

• Memorial resolution: a Word document with the text of the resolution (don’t worry about formatting). Though there are no requirements, you can view historical resolutions for examples of how they’re typically written.
• Photograph of the academic staff member: this will be displayed while the resolution is presented at the Assembly meeting.
• Name of the presenter: name of the person that will read the resolution in person at the Assembly meeting.
• Information about family and friends that will attend: it’s helpful to know if family members and/or friends of the deceased will be present at the meeting, as the presiding officer will recognize them if so. Additionally, the Office of the Secretary of the Academic Staff can assist with parking for family members if needed.
