Maintaining your physical and mental health during the busy academic year is important, and UW–Madison offers a variety of resources and incentives for employees.
Maintaining General Wellness
The Well Wisconsin Program provides a $150 wellness incentive to academic staff along with tools and resources to help you maintain or improve your current state of well-being and help lower your health risks and costs. The program and annual incentive are offered as part of the State of Wisconsin Group Health Insurance Program. To earn the $150 incentive, participants need to complete a health assessment, health check activity, and one well-being activity by October 11, 2024. Register online or via the easy-to-use mobile app called Wellness at Your Side that helps you reach your health and wellness goals.
The Center for Healthy Minds is a nationally recognized research center whose mission is to cultivate well-being and relieve suffering through a scientific understanding of the mind. The Center provides useful resources for academic staff, including podcasts, videos, events, and, a free mediation app.
Need a massage? You can receive one (for a fee) at the Bakke Rec and Wellbeing Center through UW Recreation and Wellness. UW Rec and Wellness also offers classes and workshops for meditation, yoga, self-defense, fitness, and wellbeing.
Flu and COVID-19 Vaccines
Free flu vaccines are also available through the Well Wisconsin Program. Pre-registration is required through the online portal.
Another option for no-cost flu as well as COVID-19 vaccines is through University Health Services (UHS). This fall, employees can receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines at 17 UHS clinics across campus located in a variety of convenient campus locations. Advance registration is required.
Mental Health Resources
Emotional support resources are widely available to UW–Madison employees. UHS offers resources on grief and mental health support, and the Employee Assistance Office (EAO) Life Matters provides free, confidential support and 24/7 telephone access to professional counselors in support of employees’ personal and work-related concerns.
Additional wellness resources are available to you. UW–Madison’s College Library recently launched the Wellness Collection, featuring books and resources that represent a diversity of needs, experiences, and intersectional identities, reflecting our campus community.
For members of our LGBTQ+ community on campus, the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center’s (GGSC) OutPages seeks to foster professional relationships through engaging LGBTQ+ faculty and staff in the creation of online searchable profiles. By joining OutPages, LGBTQ+ academic staff can find each other and build community.
Stay happy and healthy and enjoy your 2024-25 academic year!
