Academic Staff Committees

These committees are composed entirely of Academic Staff members. Each committee has a function related to governance or more directly to Academic Staff members themselves. A call for nominations is usually made by the Nominating Committee at an early spring Assembly meeting. The Nominating Committee prepares a slate for elections. Ideally, the slate will have more names than the number of vacancies to assure a competitive election. Any member of the Academic Staff is eligible to serve. Most committee terms are two or three years. After members have served two consecutive terms, it is recommended they step down to give others an opportunity. New terms are staggered to ensure that some experienced members are always part of the committee.

Academic Staff Executive Committee

The executive administrative board of the Academic Staff Assembly is the Academic Staff Executive Committee (ASEC). The nine members are elected by the Academic Staff at large for three year terms. One-third (or three) members of the board have terms that expire each year. Current members may be reelected.

Academic Staff Assembly Standing Committees

Initial slates are prepared by the Nominating Committee (except for the Nominating Committee itself). Other nominations may come from the floor of the Assembly or by petition. Elections are held in the spring, by a written ballot. Terms run from July 1 - June 30. Vacancies between elections are filled by appointment of ASEC.
