CEBC Meeting
1/4/2001
Members Present: Ronnie Carda, Jo Ann Carr, Reggie Gauger, Walt Hopkins, Bill Steffenhagen, Adam Steinberg
Guests: Pam Bauman, Jeanne Hendricks, Carla Raatz, Kendra Tutsch
Minutes from the December 5, 2000 meeting were approved.
Announcements included:
Kendra Tutsch shared information regarding retirement benefits outlined in UPPP Chapter 20 and shared concern about how inconsistency of these benefits being available to retirees. Specific issues were that procedures need to be standardized and clarified; there should be a change in the need for annual recertification and that these benefits should be consistently available to all retirees. Carla reported that APO is addressing these issues so that annual recertification is not necessary, so DoIT will purge unwanted accounts every 6 months and so that retirees are informed of benefits through a brochure distributed at retirement. The information on UPPP Chapter 20 needs to be shared with campus departments in order to verify the accuracy of this information. The brochure will also be shared with fringe benefits officers and the retirement association.
Minor changes were suggested to the Academic Staff Promotions brochure, which Adam will present to ASEC on January 4. He will also provide a funding proposal to the Secretary of the Academic Staff to distribute the brochure to academic staff.
December ASEC meetings included a discussion of FPP changes regarding the role of academic staff on graduate student committees. The proposed change will allow academic staff to serve on committees and to evaluate theses but not serve as the major professor. ASEC meetings in February will be attended by Walt on February 1, Jo Ann on February 8 and Reggie on February 22. CEBC representatives to ASEC for March will be determined at the February 7 CEBC meeting.
CEBC is interested in sponsoring fora for academic staff during the Spring Semester. Reggie and Walt will work with Katherine O'Rourke Benjamin on cosponsoring sessions on "If I knew then what I know now" in March or April. Reggie will also contact Steve Lund and MASA about the possibility of a workshop on portfolio building in conjunction with the release of the Academic Staff Promotions brochure.
During the Spring Semester meetings will be held from 12:00-1:30 at the Natatorium in a room to be determined.
Next meeting: February 7, 2000 12:00-1:30
Respectfully submitted,
Jo Ann Carr
