ASEC Report

Walt went to 1/27/00 ASEC meeting where they talked about DP benefits. Now there is not a lot of activity regarding DP benefits.

Academic Staff website has been updated

ASEC meets at 1:30. The schedule for CEBC representation at ASEC:

Feb 3--Walt

Feb 10--JoAnn

Feb 17--Ronnie

Feb 24--Larry

We talked about developing a memo about the UWSA and ETF websites.

Janice reported on the 1/18/00 UW System Advisory Committee on Fringe Benefits and distributed handouts on Improvements to the Wisconsin Retirement System (AB 495), the sick leave survey, the proposed dental plan and the proposed catastrophic leave program. The next meeting is 2/22/00.

JoAnn will meet with Ann Wallace regarding the Promotions and Salary Increases memo distributed to academic staff by PPPC and how CEBC and PPPC can work together to create a nuts and bolts brochure for new employees. The brochure explains how departments and other units should involve academic staff in recommending the process for allocating merit pay.

Reggie reported that Academic Personnel recommends that the committee focus the document on units improving employee evaluation communication in setting goals and accomplishments at the beginning of the year with clarification on expectations that will result in above average merit recommendations.

Based on our discussion about merit, etc., Walt will recommend to ASEC that the academic staff representatives on the Athletic Board oversee the implementation of the Committee on Academic Staff Issues (CASI) in the Athletic Department.

Walt said there would be ASPRO support for Domestic Partner benefits. They will use survey results to support their position.

Ronnie brought up the conversion of sick leave to health insurance issue. It can be framed as a financial and gender equity issue. The discussion raised the question of whether more people would take more time off if we changed the current sick leave system. Could also make it a recruitment and retention issue.

Meeting adjourned at 1:20.

Next Meeting: March 1, 2000 noon-1:00

Respectfully submitted,

Janice Czyscon
