CEBC Meeting Minutes

5/5/99

Present: Janice Czyscon, Ronnie Carda, Reggie Gauger, Walt Hopkins, Linda Keller, Bob Paulos

Minutes from the 4/7/99 meeting were approved with one correction.

Janice Czyscon gave a brief update on the domestic partner benefits forum scheduled for later in the afternoon.

Reggie Gauger reported that he attended the Eighth Annual Meeting of the Wisconsin Retirement System on May 4, 1999. He said that Blair Testin's document showed three areas of WRS that could be changed without breaking the fund. He said that it seems that UW administration supports the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). Reggie said he is worried about the long-term health of the WRS, since the WRS has lost seven senior investment officers. Reggie noted that there would be a meeting of the new Retirement Association at the Credit Union Offices on University Avenue on May 12 at 5:00 p.m.

Walt Hopkins reported that there has been talk of increasing the multiplier from 1.6% to 1.8% for the years 1984 to 2000 in order to improve the WRS and in response to demand for an ORP.

Walt reported that Carla Raatz said that classified staff can donate vacation days and personal holidays to colleagues in need. He said that someone is looking into making this procedure available to academic staff. ASEC will discuss this with the University Committee on May 14. Ronnie Carda noted that academic staff with nine-month appointments don't get vacation.

Walt said that the successor of former CEBC member Allen Cohen will be addressed by the nominating committee. Walt Hopkins and Janice Czyscon were re-elected to the CEBC. The new member of CEBC is William Kelly.

Rumors about the pay plan are 3% for the first year and 3.5% for the second year.

The pre-tax deduction for parking/van pool wil be effective September 1, 1999.

The new secretary of the academic staff is Colleen McCabe.

Ronnie Carda noted that he will not attend the June CEBC meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 1:15 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Janice Czyscon
