ASEC Meeting Reports
CEBC has made a concerted effort to attend ASEC meetings. Walt attended the 9/2/98 meeting. He reported on CEBC activities. PDRC suggested that we add an advising award to the Academic Staff Excellence Awards.
Walt Hopkins reported that Colleges and Schools have been encouraged to create Academic Staff Committees. Chancellor Ward will put it on the Dean's Council agenda for their 10/1/98 meeting. There's an ASEC subcommittee on collateral faculty.
Linda Keller reported that ASEC wants CEBC to keep a close relationship with Judy Donmoyer on the System Fringe Benefits Committee, which recommends that the regents support:
ð removing the ALRA cap
ð approving annual cash out benefit for unused vacation (classified and executive employees do it now.)
ð giving three additional personal days to academic staff
Linda said that Judy reported that the System Fringe Benefits Committee
ð wants new guidelines for sick leave reporting, especially for colleague coverage days.
ð is looking at ORPs at Indiana and Ohio
ð is looking at guidelines for rehired annuitants.
Walt will ask Judy for minutes and how this was decided.
October 1 ASEC meeting, Provost Wiley gave an update on Walden University (on-line courses).
The three personal holiday request won't go to regents until December. Walt will talk to Judy about CEBC's opposition to requesting three additional personal holidays.
At ASEC-CEBC lunch on 10/5/98, we will talk about a letter to Academic Staff regarding the budget process.
Future ASEC meeting at 260 or 262 Bascom, at 1:30:
10/15 - Walt
10/22 - Larry
10/29 - Linda
Continuing Topics
Retirement Association: Reggie Gauger contacted Joe Corry. Reggie is on the committee now. He will attend as many meetings as possible.
ASPRO is sponsoring candidates forums. The next Board meeting will be in Milwaukee.
On October 14 there will be an all-day meeting on retirement issues. Walt will get more information. Maybe a member of CEBC will attend.
"New" ICIwill introduce to legislature in January after elections.
Domestic Partners reportThe subcommittee continues to gather information. We asked Linda Keller to tell ASPRO that CEBC is working on domestic partner benefits, and will expect ASPRO support when the time comes. In February or March, we plan to convene a CEBC meeting on the status of the subcommittee's work on domestic partnership benefits.
New Items
There will be a sick leave audit report to the Regents who may ask for more ways to be accountable.
Workplace Issues Committee
Bob Paulos will talk to a member to find out what it's about and what they are doing about compensation issues, since Jane Bannerman is heading up compensation issues.
Walt suggested that we perhaps use Assembly rep district lists to survey constituents about CEBC issues.
Meeting Adjourned at 1:52 p.m.
