We went around the table introducing ourselves.
Walt Hopkins noted that the 8-8-98 meeting was unofficial since we did not have a quorum.
Janice Czyscon apologized for not attending the 8/13/98 ASEC meeting and reviewed minutes from that meeting.
Linda Keller noted that she attended the 8-27-98 ASEC meeting. She reported that there will be a Fall Kick-off Reception on 9-24-98 from 4-6 p.m. at the University Club. It is co-sponsored by Madison Academic Staff Association (MASA), Latino Staff Association (LASA), and Student Personnel Association (SPA).
Walt Hopkins will contact Greg Iaccarino to let Greg know that the CEBC would like to co-sponsor with the PDRC the October brown bag on benefits.
Janice reported that she, Larry Davis, and Bob Paulos had met with Provost John Wiley in June to discuss domestic partnership benefits. Provost Wiley was supportive and recommended that the CEBC continue to gather information and build a system-wide coalition.
Linda Keller agreed to find the resolutions passed by the Academic Staff Assembly regarding domestic partnership benefits to answer CEBC members' questions.
Walt Hopkins volunteered to serve on the System Compensation Advisory Committee.
Reggie Gauger volunteered to serve as CEBC liaison to the Retirement Association.
Walt Hopkins reported that a new plan has been proposed to make the Income Continuation Insurance Program the same for all state employees. It will require legislative approval.
Reggie Gauger asked if any governance body is working to keep faculty and academic staff compensation coupled. Linda Keller said that ASPRO is carefully watching to prevent decoupling.
Walt Hopkins will attend the 9/10/98 ASEC meeting. Linda Keller will attend the 9/24/98 ASEC meeting. Janice Czyscon will attend the 10/8/98 ASEC meeting.
Walt Hopkins will notify ASEC that CEBC can meet for a luncheon meeting with ASEC on 9/24/98.
Walt Hopkins reported that he spoke with Steve Lund of the Academic Personnel Office who said that the issue regarding the single person death benefit is on the agenda of the September meeting of the UW System Fringe Benefits Advisory Committee. Steve suggested that CEBC discuss this issue with Judy Donmoyer and Esther Olson.
