1. CEBC is currently working on processes to address academic staff equity on campus. A CEBC sub-committee was formed including Jim Pavelko and Bill Steffenhagen from CEBC and Ann Lamboley of Academic Personnel and Margaret Harrigan of Office of Budget, Policy and Planning, Provost Office. Current sub-committee recommendations agreed to are:
a. Emphasis title change (promotions) at 3 yrs and 7 yrs for Category A titles Associate to No-Prefix and No-Prefix to Senior.
b. Suggest departments address compression when new employees are hired.
c. Inform academic staff about their promotion rights and options.
d. Send out a promotion report to all departments and units, listing all employees that are up for promotion based on years of service with title, require departmental reports on why or why not employee was/was not promoted. Ran the reports through the deans office and then through APO and our committee.
e. Suggest CASIs become involved in academic staff equity at the department level similar to current faculty committees (long term plan).

2. CEBC is currently working on the differences in benefit packages between Classified and Academic Staff. The committee did an in-depth study detailing the differences. Consulted with Richard Laufenberg, Kathleen O'Rourke Benjamin and Steve Lund.

Issues studied included the following:
Floating holiday - in recognition of Veteran's day - Approved
Income continuation insurance (ICI)
Sick Leave earning
Health insurance
Health insurance premium
Sabbatical/Annual Leave Reserve Account (ALRA)
Reinstatement of benefits
Pay raise
Domestic partners benefits

3. CEBC followed the implementation of new classified contracts and looked for ways to provide equity for unclassified staff.

4. CEBC worked with Kathleen O'Rourke-Benjamin and Susan Adams to coordinate joint sponsorship with Employee Compensation & Benefits Services of the brown bags "What you don't know about your benefits can hurt you," February 26, 2004, and "Benefits review for part-time or less than 12 monthappointments," April 19, 2004.

5. CEBC is investigating options that would allow academic staff members who have a break in employment service of 3 yrs to 5 yrs to reinstate previously earned sick leave hours. Academic staff members currently can reinstate earned sick leave hours if they return to a UW System position within 3 years. UW System classified staff can reinstate earned sick leave hours if they return to a state classified position within 5 years.

6. CEBC staffed a table at the October 8 benefits fair, where they provided the CEBC flyers on promotions and a handout that describes the CEBC mission, lists all CEBC members, and lists the Office of Employee Compensation and Benefits Services' address and phone number. CEBC also asked Academic Staff members to submit questions about their job benefits and job satisfaction in general. CEBC reviewed the list of issues and tried to resolve as many of them as best they could.

7. CEBC elected its new officers for the '04-'05 fiscal year.
