Call for Members: Academic Staff Ad Hoc Committee on the Research Enterprise
On Thursday, September 10, the Academic Staff Executive Committee (ASEC)voted unanimously to form an ad hoc committee to evaluate the pros and cons of administratively splitting graduate education and the research enterprise. The proposal would split the administration of graduate education and research, which are now both housed in the Graduate School (http://www.news.wisc.edu/research-and-graduate-ed/). I am writing to ask that you consider volunteering your time on this committee. The committee will be comprised of 6-8 academic staff involved in research, research administration and graduate education. The committee will work cooperatively with a similar committee established by the University Committee. A final report from the committee will be due to ASEC by the end of this calendar year. Academic staff supported solely on federal funds may participate by using non-sponsored funds to cover their time spent on this activity since it is likely to exceed 1% effort. I expect the committee will meet weekly through the end of the year. If you are interested in being considered for this committee, please send a brief (one paragraph) statement about your interest in the committee as well as contributions you will be able to make (i.e., specific knowledge, data, etc.) to the Secretary of the Academic Staff (dlsilver@wisc.edu) no later than Wednesday, Sept. 23. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Heather Daniels, ASEC chair, hdaniels@uwmad.wisc.edu.
Thank you
Heather Daniels
ASEC Chair
